Watercolor Distress Marker Card

I am not a painter.  I never have been.  I love how Distress Markers make it look like you have been watercoloring for years.  I started making this card simply by playing with the little kid set of watercolors I have had forever.  I used shades of blue and purple.  I just kept layering them to deepen the color.  I dried it between layers and then blotted here and there.  

I stamped my background image and then set it aside.  I stamped the main image using Archival ink on watercolor paper.  I used my Distress Markers and the watercolors to paint.  I used my waterbrush to do all the detail.  

I used plain white cardstock and my latticework stencil to make the body of the card.  Broken China and Black Soot Distress markers in the spritzer made a light background.  

I added a flower from my stash when I was on my Tattered Floral kick.  

You'd never know I wasn't a painter ;)

Wendy Vecchi's Crackle Texture Paste

Ready for another crackle paste project?  This card has a billion different techniques on it.

  I used the crackle paste on the bottom of the card and let it dry.  Once it was dry I popped it in an embossing folder and ran it through my Sizzix.  I used Gathered Twigs Distress Stain all over the paste.  Once the stain sank into all the cracks I used my Vintage Photo Distress Ink to highlight the raised areas.  

The medallion is colored with Alcohol Inks in Meadow, Caramel, Ginger, and Stream.  The industrious frame got a touch of ink too.  Vintage black lace and washi tape line the top of the card pocket.

The card is a tag shape.  I started by using Antique Linen Distress Ink and the Latticework Stencil on the background.  I then used a large script stamp to cover the background in Vintage Photo.  A few spritz of Black Soot Distress Marker using the new Spritzer finished the background.  

The image was stamped on watercolor paper and colored using my Distress Markers and water brush.  I am not a painter, but the distress markers make anyone look like a pro.   The edges were roughed up using the Tonic paper distresser.  

The Tim Holtz saying was stamped in Archival Ink.  The flowers are from Prima.  I cut them up and glued them to make a dimensional flower.  

I love how this turned out.  Grungy, but beautiful.

Playing with Wendy Vecchi's crackle paste

I discovered we have a teeny tiny stamp store very close to my house.  They carry some stuff I can't find at the typical big box craft store.  One of the best things I have found there is Wendy Vecchi's crackled texture paste.
I have used Tim Holtz's crackle paint, but Wendy's paste is, well paste.  It's thick and awesome for using with stencils.
My first project was actually just a mop up tag from other projects.  Since I hadn't used the paste I thought it would be good to try it on here.

I started by just smearing a thin layer of the paste all over the card and then drying it with my heat gun once I saw cracks start to form when air drying.  Once the paste was dry I used Evergreen Bough and Gathered Twigs Distress stain to color the paste.  

I randomly added tissue wrap with gel medium.  

The saying is Cosmo Cricket tiny type.  The frame is Tim Holtz's Industrious line.  

Look how tiny that waist is.   The girl needs a cookie.  This image is from Lisa's Altered Art.  I put a book page behind it to add some demension.  The tag is finished off with some crinkle ribbon colored with Evergreen Bough, Gathered Twigs, and Spun Sugar.

Compendium of Curiosities Distress Glitter Challenge

It's on to challenge number two in Linda Ledbetter's CC3 Challenge.  This time it's Distress Glitter.  This time the prize is provided by The Funkie Junkie Boutique.  The prizes for these challenges are pretty dang amazing.  You don't have to do each challenge to win either.  You still have time to join in the fun.

I started with the wings.  I knew I wanted to use the wings.  I fussy cut the found relative and added them to a cabinet card.  Since the wings are thick I used three layers of foam tape to raise up the girl.

I used a canvas page to mount the cabinet card.  I detailed the background using various Distress Inks and Stains.  I smooshed them on my craft sheet and spritzed everything with water.  I added some stencil details and used a large Stampers Anonymous background stamp to add an extra layer.

I made some flowers using my Tattered Florals die cut and Distress Stains.  A tiny bundle of forget me nots are tucked in there too.  

A little row of pompoms finishes the bottom of the cabinet card.  I love that the card is from Blessing's photography studio and she is an angel.

Compendium of Curiosities Marble Paint Challenge

Hooray! I finally got my copy of Compendium of Curiosities III.  Time to play with Paint Marbling for the Linda Ledbetter challenge.  I started by playing with tags, but wanted to make something a bit bigger for the first challenge.  Here is what I made.

I started with a 5x7 canvas panel and distress paint.  Since that's the challenge I had to use it.  

I can't tell you how I did it, but poof these colors went on the canvas to look like this.

You can see I used tissue wrap and stencils to add to the background.  I also spritzed the back to add speckles.  

I hope you all like the canvas.  I can't wait for the next challenge.

Tim Holtz May 2014 Tag

This month Tim challenged us to use some of our favorite things in our stash.  When I started digging I knew I had to do a bird themed tag.

I started simply by pulling out all my bird items I wanted to use.  I put them on the tag in the pattern I thought would work.

 Once that was done I cut some thin chipboard to back them up.  At this point I realized the number 8 tag was not going to work.  I ended up using a number 10 tag.

You can see my trinkets don't really coordinate.  There are a lot of brass tones in there, so I went with yellows for my background.  I used Antique Linen, Pumice Stone, Scattered Straw, Vintage Photo, and Wild Honey Distress Ink for the background.
I used the new Wildflower paper to cover my chipboard.  Once covered I distressed the edges and tinted with Vintage Photo Ink.
Now I needed to make the bits a pieces work together.  I colored the resin bird using Distress Markers.  The chipboard bird, wing, frame, and bird stickers were all colored using Alcohol Inks.

I topped it off with crinkle ribbon colored with Scattered Straw, Gathered Twigs, and Peacock Feathers.  I gave it a spray of Walnut Ink too.
