The Easter Fairy

I will put wings on anything(in case you hadn't already noticed that about me).  I was playing around and made this little Easter fairy today.  

I lined the inside of my vignette box with paper from the Etcetera pack and gave it a layer of crackle medium.  When the crackle was dry I added distress crayon in Hickory Smoke and Bundled Sage.   

The sparkle on the edge is the thin roll of design tape from the Chatter pack. I colored it using alcohol inks.  

I'm still playing with the paper dolls and gave her wings from the botanical layers.  The paper flower in the back is from the botanical layers set too.  I added color using Distress Markers.  The other flowers are vintage from the hoard, as are the spools, the bunny, and the egg.

Mermaid Dreams Canvas

I think you all know by now that I am a sucker for mermaids. I decided to break out my chipboard mermaid stash to create a mixed media canvas.

 I started with a 5x7 canvas board( I added a skimpy layer of gesso to the board) and several paint colors.  I used my fingers to smear on the paint.

 Once the paint dried I added Glimmermists in several colors.  I sprayed them really close to the board and let them run down.  I dried them with my heat tool.  I added a bit of tissue wrap just for interest on the background.  I adhered it using a gel medium.

Next, I grabbed my Mixed Media Fragments and used the circle piece.  I painted and sprayed it until I got a good green color.  I added a bit of tan using a sponge just to break up the greens.  Using a stencil I pounced my embossing ink through the stencil and then added Burnt Copper Leaves embossing powder.  I reheated some areas of the embossing powder and added gold foil.  I glued the fragment to the board.

I chose one of the larger Mermaid images and embossed her using Onyx Frost.  To make her tail shimmery colors I used Perfect Pearls.

The Crown was finger painted using the Distress Paint and then embossed with Fractured Ice. I used sticky backed pearls for the jewels.  You will see on the final photos that I changed some of the jewels and I used real stones instead.  

Once I glued all of the bits on the board I added in some rubs ons and scribbled some gel pen.

I am worth so much more than my dress size

I decided to make a little spattered dress for the challenge.  It's funny, I love to splatter almost every project I make but when I saw this challenge I froze.  Since I always splatter did I just make my typical project? I decided to splatter all the things instead.

I started with a chipboard dress and smeared on gesso using my fingers.

I added Distress Crayons and rubbed them around.  I wet my finger a bit to move the color. 

My first splatters! I spritzed water on to make it some of the crayon lift.

Paint splatters make the second layer of messy goodness.  I mainly used Dina Wakley paints.  They are nice and heavy.  

Now time for embossing powder splatter.  I sprinkled on Charred Gold Embossing Powder and heated the powder from the bottom so it wouldn't blow all over the place.  

I used a bit of Hammered Metal Embossing Powder on the bottom of the dress and on the sleeves.  

I decided the sleeves didn't pop enough, so I added white paint to the sleeves, the neck, and around the edge of the dress.  I used my fude ball pen to add the black dots.  I scribbled all around the dress using a silver gel pen.  I also used a large background stamp for some extra interest.  

I splattered my Button Brad with the same paint I used on the dress.  I thought it looked too flat.  

I ended up painting the buttons yellow and covering them with Clear Embossing Powder.  

It's messy and imperfect-just like me!

Beautiful Relic Stage using Distress Oxides

I started out this morning playing with my Distress Oxides and made this tag.

I wanted to put a Paper Doll on it, but the one I chose was too big.  My tag evolved into this.

I used a stage from Gypsy Soul Laser cuts as my base.  I covered the base, the sides, and  the curtains with paper from Tim Holtz's Wallflower pad.  I used a piece of Prima paper for the back.

I used Distress Oxide ink in Vintage photo along the top and then sprayed it with water to make the runs.  The sides, curtains, and base received the same treatment but I used various colors of the Oxides. 

The back was coated with a very thin layer of gesso.  I then blended and sprayed the Oxide inks until I achieved a patina I liked.  Once it was all dry I used my mini stencil with Archival inks in Watering Can and Hydrangea for the flowers.  It looks like old water stained wallpaper.

The top and the bunting are embossing using Charred Gold powder.  I used oxide inks and crayons to get the different shades.  

I added some moss and mushrooms to add to the decayed look of the piece.  I am normally really particular about making sure the raw chipboard edges are painted, but I think it added to the look I was going for.  

I need to get back to playing with my inks now :)

Spring Chics

Ah,  spring. I have some spring chics for you today.
 I made these for Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts.  Be sure to stop by the blog and see the other wonderful creations the DT has been making.

I started by coating my tag with a layer of collage medium and add bits of ripped tissue wrap.  Next I scribbled a light layer of  Distress Crayon in several colors.

In the one you see here I used colors that reminded me of a sunset.  I placed a stencil over the tag and rubbed away some of the crayon using an almost dry baby wipe.

I buy the cheapest baby wipes I can find.  They tend to be rough and pretty dry(not exactly what you'd want to use on a baby's bottom, but awesome for crafting). For the final step on the tag I added speckles of black and gold paint.  I also used some gold paint and just smeared it with my fingers.

Obviously, this is a close up of one of the other tags, but you can see the speckles. 

I took one of the bird nests from the For the Birds set. I inked the top part using brown Distress inks. The bottom piece is embossing using Emerald Creek's San Tropez Tan.

I cut out a vintage lady and plopped her in the nest.  I decided the tag needed a bit more interest so I used a stencil and distress crayon to make the tracks down the side. Once the sentiment was added I randomly scribbled around on the tag.

I decided she needed some friends so I made a couple more tags using the same technique and different bits of the For the Birds set.

This girl had her house made with Emerald Creek's Salted Navy and Hammered Metal embossing powders.  

This one used the San Tropez Tan on the top and I ran my Distress Crayons over it to make it darker in areas.
