We Carry the Heavens with Us

Hi Everyone,
I've been keeping a secret.  I have been asked to be in the designer spotlight on the Simon Says Stamp Monday challenge for the month of June!

I am beyond excited to share what I have been creating for you
.  A huge shout out goes out to Lols and the SSS team for letting me play along with them for the month.

We are kicking off the month showcasing a little bit of Prima magic.  You don't have to use Prima products in your creations for the challenge, but it would be awfully fun if you did.
The theme this week is Weddings/Anniversaries.

My anniversary was just last week.  We have been together for 12 years now.  I thought for this project I'd use a little something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue.

To begin I covered a Dina Wakley canvas board with  Tim Holtz Collage Paper.  I used Collage Medium all over the board to stick the collage paper down.  Then I added another layer on top.  I didn't completely coat the top because I wanted the inks and sprays to adhere to the collage paper in different ways.  Once the collage medium was dry  I sanded the background so some of the collage paper came off and some of the pattern disappeared.  To color the collage paper I sprayed on Distress Spray Stain in Tea Dye and Tattered Rose  I dried that and then added a layer of Oxide Spray in Pumice Stone, Antique Linen, and Cracked Pistachio.  To finish the base I added the tiniest bit of Walnut Stain Spray Stain and some Prima wax in Vintage Silk. Did you know the traditional 12 year anniversary gift is silk? Using this wax was my subtle nod to this tradition.

For the something borrowed I used this sheet music that a friend sent to me and had stitched up into a pocket. I borrowed the pocket and ripped it in half.  Once I decided I liked the size I put it aside and added some of Tim Holtz Botanical Layer pieces behind where the pocket would go.  I used collage medium to glue them down, then sanded them, and finally used some Pumice Stone Distress Ink over them so the white paper core wouldn't show. The back of the pocket was then glued to the center of the board.  The edges of the sheet music were hit with the Pumice Stone pad as well. Bits of ephemera were added to the pocket and once they were all slipped in place I glue the flap of the pocket to the back.

The bride is carrying a bouquet of vintage blue flowers(this was my something old).  I just poked a hole through the Tim Holtz paper doll and glue the bouquet in place.  Because the stems are a bit bulky I attached the paper doll to the sheet music pocket using foam tape.

The final piece of the pocket was adding the metal accent.  This flourish is from the Tim Holtz Halloween Vignette accent package.  I added a bit of Broken China Distress paint and some PaperArtsy Venice Blue(my something blue).  I just rubbed the paint on using my fingers and then before it dried rubbed a bit off to expose the original color.  The extra bit of Venice Blue paint got smudged around random edges of the board.  Gold paint pen gave a teeny bit of glimmer here and there on the collage paper.

The final step was adding the words. I adore the clipping stickers from Tim Holtz.   It's so fun looking at all the random sayings and creating stories out of them. You can make new stories every time.  So, there is my something new.  I created a new piece of art for my husband to celebrate our anniversary.
I hope you are inspired to create your own Wedding/Anniversary Themed project and join the challenge. Don't forget to stop by the design team members blogs and see what they have created. I'll be back next Monday with another Simon Says Stamp project.
Thanks for popping by and happy crafting!
Jess
