Tim Holtz Found Relative Mixed Media (Canvas

I found a new challenge blog, well they found me on Instagram (you can find me there too it's listed on the top of the blog).  I popped by to check it out and wouldn't you know the project I just finished fits perfectly into their current challenge!
The Mixed Media Monthly blog is having a spray ink creation challenge.

This is the first time I have used a male found relative.  I still gave him some pretty fantastic wings! I distress painted, stained, inked, stenciled, stamped, and Dylusion sprayed until my fingers were many shades.  The overall canvas is 8x10.
I am also entering this into the two challenge blogs below.

Tim Tag for June and Compendium of Curiosities Challenge

It was so fun to get inky.  Sometimes life gets too hectic and I don't find the time to craft.  Crafting keeps me balanced and is a huge stress reliever for me. I needed to sit and play.
I was able to fit two challenges into one tag! This will work for the Tim Holtz June tag and the Compendium of Curiosities 3 Challenge #5.  This Compendium challenge is sponsored by The Inspiration Emporium.

I tried several backgrounds for this tag.  I started with stars, but decided the rays worked better.  I added some crackle paint to add another layer of dimension.  I can't tell you how I colored the main focal image, you need to look at your Compendium of Curiosities 3 to find out!

My Paula bow.

I hope you like it.

Faux metal box

I had this little wooden box and it's cute, but I wanted to grunge it up.  I decided the best way to do it was to make it look rusty.
Have you tried the faux patina paint from Ten Seconds Studio? This stuff is awesome.  A couple coats of paint and you can make anything look old.
Once I painted my box it was time to decorate.  While it was drying I dug out some rusty goodness.
The rose was the perfect addition to the box.  I knew I wanted it to be the focal point.  I had the brass "hers" placard forever.  I used alcohol inks to age it and the brad.
I rubbed some black paint and alcohol ink one the key plate.  This brass was shinier and just using the alcohol ink wasn't toning it down enough for me.

Watch gears and remnant rubs finish out the decorating.

Now I have a rusty treasure box to add to my jewelry table.

Compendium of Curiosities Challenge 4

Time for the next CC3 Challenge!  This technique is so fun to do.  I haven't had much time to craft so I was excited to sit down and get a bit inky.
This time the challenge is sponsored by The Funkie Junkie Boutique.
I still can't get enough of the Found Relatives.
The background is colored with Distress Stains.  I used the stains to color the tissue wings and her bow too.

There you have it.  I hope you like her.

Wendy Vecchi remnant rub challenge

Wendy Vecchi was prepping for a class and had 300 backers from Tim Holtz's remnant rubs.  The backing is a good light weight card stock and has a great design on it.  You can read about how Wendy repurposed her backing here.
If you've been reading my bog I have been using Wendy's crackle paste a bit and used some of these backers to emboss(folder, not heat) and then crackle.  It comes out great.  The finish is really grungy and old.
I decided to try using the backers a different way.  I stamped and embossed(heat) my image on the backer.  Once the image was cool I used alcohol ink to color the dress.  I just used a bit so the background would still show through a bit.  Sorry about the glare here.

I colored a flower and some twine to match the dress.
The tag was done using various stenciling techniques with paint and distress inks.  A bit of tissue wrap added another layer of interest.

I stamped my sentiment using black archival ink.
I used some seam binding my sweet friend Jamie from Beantown Baby Crafts sent me.  Check out her stuff on Etsy and Facebook.  I used some Gathered Twigs distress stain to dirty it up a bit.
So much better with natural lighting.  Isn't it gorgeous?!
I'm off to make some more.  What have you done with these backers?
