The Easter Fairy

I will put wings on anything(in case you hadn't already noticed that about me).  I was playing around and made this little Easter fairy today.
I lined the inside of my vignette box with paper from the Etcetera pack and gave it a layer of crackle medium.  When the crackle was dry I added distress crayon in Hickory Smoke and Bundled Sage.
The sparkle on the edge is the thin roll of design tape from the Chatter pack. I colored it using alcohol inks.
I'm still playing with the paper dolls and gave her wings from the botanical layers.  The paper flower in the back is from the botanical layers set too.  I added color using Distress Markers.  The other flowers are vintage from the hoard, as are the spools, the bunny, and the egg.

Winter Wishes

Hi Everyone,

I bet you thought I had fallen off the face of the earth.  I'm still here.  I just haven't been crafting.  I think this is the longest dry spell I have ever had.  All of my usual tricks for sparking my crafty mojo just didn't seem to be working. I looked at my favorite blogs, read my favorite magazines, pinned a billion projects on Pinterest, and nothing.  I pulled out all of my Christmas decor and finally a little spark. The spark made me run to the craft room and pull out my Christmas box; you know the huge box of Christmas stuff you hoard for Christmas crafting? It sits beside the Halloween box, the Easter box, the Valentine's day box? Please tell me you all have these boxes and it's not time to call in the professionals for help.
I pulled out a bunch of goodies and stared at them.  Then I went to my box box(the box I keep boxes in to craft with) and dug out a small box that my headphones came in.  I knew it would make a perfect shadowbox.
I lined the box with vintage sheet music.
The box is a slate gray color and wanted to keep the color.  I rubbed embossing ink on randomly and then used Clear Embossing Powder for detail.  It wasn't enough.  I slapped on a thick coat of Rock Candy Crackle and let it dry.  While the crackle dried I worked on my interior elements.
I used the mini deer and the mini snowflake mover and shapers from Sizzix.  The deer got a nice coat of Charred Gold Embossing Powder. The snowflakes shimmer with Soft Fallen Snow Embossing Powder.  I love the Soft Fallen snow powder.  There is an iridescent glitter in it and it has a lovely twinkle.
By now my crackle was dry, but it was lacking something.  I used Distress Stain in Tarnished Brass to highlight the cracks.  The underlayer of Embossing Powder made for some really cool crackles.

And here is the part of the creative process where I got so excited I stopped taking pictures.
The bottle brush tree is colored with several shades of green Distress Spray Stains-Evergreen Bough, Moved Lawn, and Iced Spruce. Once the tree was dry I used Glossy accents to get Soft Fallen Snow Embossing powder to stick on the tree.  I didn't heat the powder.  I just let the glue dry and I got perfect snow on my tree.  Once the powder was dry I used some of my vintage mercury glass beads to decorate the tree.  A mirrored star and a bit of mushroom alcohol ink tops the tree.
The tree got glued in the corner and the deer was popped in front.  I put the embossed snowflakes on the back and then using fishing line I added several Snowflake Charms.  I poked hold in the box using a craft knife and just tied tiny knots to hold them up.  To cover the holes and fishing line I made a big bow using seam binding and Barn Door Distress Stain.
The bottom was sprinkled with mica snow.
The finishing touch was a bit of German scrap edging.

A pretty little addition to the Christmas crew.  Not too shabby for a headphone box.
Don't forget to enter the Winter Wishes Dare and you have a chance to win a $50 gift card to the shop.
I hope you all have a wonderful holiday surrounded by friends and family.
Merry Christmas,
Jess

Mermaid dreams

Did you play with paper dolls when you were a kid? I can remember my Mum cutting them out for me.  She has always loved to cut.  I made some lovely mermaids for a more grown up version of paper dolls.

Our Creative Corner Return of the Challenge- I was inspired by the May 2014 Love those Leftovers Challenge.  All of the paper used here is all from my scrap box.  Most of the ribbon and bling were just little bits and pieces I had hanging around too.

Look at how yummy these colors are! I think the perfect pearls I used on the tails mimic the colors and shimmer.  Plus these girls are all about the pastels.

Spooning up some holiday fun!

When I was handed a wooden spoon and asked to alter it I thought people might be a tad crazy.  Once I got into it I realized it was pretty fun! Pop by Altered Pages to see the fun wintery spoons I created.

The best way to spread Christmas cheer

How can you not love this altered coaster?!
Altered coastes are so fun and easy to make.  This little photo booth girl was so giggly I knew she would make a great elf.  A scrap of paper, a pompom, and a bit of trim makes the perfect elf hat.  I colored her sweater in using my Distress Marker in Mowed Lawn.
Usually I cover my entire coaster, but the green stripes worked with my theme.   I just popped on a scrap of Christmas paper and some vintage sheet music for layers.  A quote and a sprig of holly complete her.

Easy christmas gift is done!

Photobooth ATCs

I have a thing for ATCs as of late.  I like how quickly I can work them up.  In a short amount of time you can have a tiny work of art!
I created these three for a swap on Art Joy Stuff.
The backgrounds are a mish mash of papers, ink, and even gesso smears.

The photos are all raised up with foam tape for dimension and so I could tuck extra stuff under there, like the tulle on this one.

The tiny tattered florals are the perfect size for ATCs.
I will show you what I received in return soon.

Wedding Bells

One of my managers is getting married.  He asked me not to buy them a gift, so I asked if I could make him something instead.  He had already asked me to make his sister a gift for the wedding(she is the best woman) and said he would love it if I created something for him.
I was a bad crafter and didn't take pictures during the creating process.  So here is the final result.

Congratulations to Anthony and Amy.  I hope you enjoy your gift.

ATC swaps

Here are a few ATC's I've made for recent swaps.
Over at Unruly Paperarts they hosted a botanical swap.  Here are the three I made.

Over at Art Joy Stuff Kimberly hosted an Inspired by French General swap  Kimberly does three for three swaps too.

I made these for a couple swaps I did on Instagram.

Isn't this last one just perfect for the Try it on Tuesdays 60's retro challenge?

I like making ATCs.  Tiny works of art.
I will post some of the ones I received in return soon!

Also Stamps and Stencils Three of a Kind challenge is up and I'd love to enter my first two sets of three into the running.

Altered Fairy Notebook

If you haven't noticed I love the images from Lisa's Altered Art.  Her images are so fun.  She has a great sense of humor.
This little girl started out sitting on a pumpkin and wearing a witch hat.
I fussy cut her out, added the wings, and hat.  I wasn't quite sure what I wanted to do with her, but I had a plain little notebook I decided to cover.
There are a couple coats of gesso on here to cover the image that was already on the notebook.  Once the gesso was dry I painted it with Distress Paints in Broken China, Weathered Wood, and Bundled Sage.  Once all the paint was dry I used my Lattice work and Hearts Stencils with Pickled Raspberry Distress Ink to add a light pattern.

Inside I lined pages with washi tape and randomly stamped fun sayings.  I also used some Hazel and Ruby washi tape.  This stuff is great.  It's a super easy way to add text to your work.

This is inside the back cover :)

I had a mop up tag with some Dylusions and some Distress Inks on it.  I added Distress Ink in Shaded Lilac and Pumice Stone to fill in blank spots.  The industrious frame highlights the little fairy perfectly.  The corrugate was ripped up using my Tonic Paper Distresser.  I added gesso around the edges and smudged whatever was left on my fingers on the front.  A little chit chat finishes the cover.
