Dreaming of a White Christmas

Hi Everyone,

 

My favorite day of the year is coming up.  Each year my mum and my  sister come to my house for cookie day.  We bake all day long, I'm talking like 7am-9pm.  We have our favorite recipes we use year after year.  We keep those in a little notebook.  We do like to try new recipes each year too.  More and more often we are finding new recipes on the internet.  I thought it was the perfect time to make a Christmas themed phone/tablet holder so we don't get baking supplies all over our phones.
 These phone holders are so easy to put together(there are only three pieces). They would make an awesome gift!

Paint the base white.  Make sure the edges and at least one side are really well done since they will be exposed.  Paint the edges of the other pieces white too.  The other two pieces get covered with patterned paper.  I used some of the Tim Holtz Christmas wallpaper to cover the back piece.  This paper looks and feels like real wallpaper.  It's nice to add the tiny bit of texture to the project.

These snowy flourishes are coming to the shop soon.  You get two in a pack.  Paint both pieces white, then cover them with a clear Rock Candy  glitter.  

Insert the pieces into their slots. Don't forget to add a bit of glue to hold them in securely.   Technically your piece is completely put together at this point.  But we will embellish this! Glue to snowy flourishes to the back of the piece.  Then cover the base with Grit Paste from Ranger.  While the paste is wet sprinkle on more rock candy glitter.  Leave the space where your phone will sit paste free.  

Paint an ideaology resin snowman and cover him with rock candt glitter.  Add teeny mercury glass holly berries to his hat.  While the grit paste is wet stick the snowman in the paste.  In front of the small piece of chipboard add a chip quote Christmas saying.  Again, do this while the paste is wet and it will dry in place.  

One the back add a couple bottlebrush trees, teeny presents, a deer, and peppermints.  Another Christmas sentiment will complete your project.

Steampunk Goddess

Jess here today with my first post of the month for Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts.  

I am not a steampunk girl.  It's not really in my wheelhouse.  I dabble here and there, but when I saw this Steampunk Cage Dressform I knew I had to make something with it.  Honestly, it was super easy to make, so today's tutorial will be super short.

Cover your base using Seth Apter's new Baked Texture Embossing Powders.  The base layer here is Rocky Road.  The different patches of color are from Dirty Sand, Chunky Rust, and Patina Oxide.

It's gorgeous and you don't have to prep the chipboard before applying the powder.  I just slapped on the embossing ink and went to town.  The secret to the layering is really just heating up the base layer(in this case the Rocky Road) and sprinkling on the color you want to add.

The dress form was covered with a thin layer of gesso and then I added Distress Oxide Ink in Cracked Pistachio. 

I covered that with Ancient Amber Embossing powder and added gears.   The wings are covered with the same ink and then embossed using Vintage Beeswax and sprinkled with Patina Oxide and Deep Sea embossing powders.  

Her back has a key to wind her up.  

I colored a vintage chandelier crystal using Alcohol Ink in Mushroom and hung it from the center of the gear to complete the piece.  

Where the pieces joined together I used black paint to hide the raw chipboard.

Christmas House Ornaments

Hi Everyone,

I've got a quick last minute ornament or gift tag for you.

Start with your Simple House Ornament cover both sides in the paper of your choosing. I added a bit of shimmer using my clear shimmer pen.  I tried to capture it in the photos, but it's so subtle.  

Apply a thin layer of white acrylic paint to both sides of your Snowflake Border.  You won't need the whole border.  I placed mine on top of my ornament and got a basic placement idea and then trimmed it accordingly.  

Once your paint is dry emboss the snowflakes using Fractured Ice Embossing powder. 

Color your Tim Holtz paper doll using Distress Markers.  I also added some stickles for sparkle. 

Glue your snowflakes to your house(be sure you don't cover the hole in the top of the ornament).  Add your people using some foam tape for dimension.  Add stickers from the Tim Holtz Christmas clippings stack.  A little bakers twine and your ornament is finished.   

I liked this so much I made a second ornament using the same process, but these snowflakes are embossed with Charred Gold.The paper doll had a tiny jingle bell added to his hand.

Dying to get out

Hi everyone,
I am up on the Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts blog today with this creepy coffin.

This project was so fast and simple to create, but the results are pretty creepy.
Cover your Coffin Box with your choice of paper.  I went with the weathered wood piece from the new Tim Holtz Halloween 8x8 pad. I did not decorate the bottom or the inside of the box since I knew I would be gluing it shut.

On the underside of the lid place another small piece of the same paper and cut through the chipboard using a craft knife.

Glue your skeleton to the top of the box so his head pops out of the hole. I glued him right to the top of the box.  I actually cut him in half and saved his bottom for another project.  I cut an additional tiny hole so a hand could peep out.  Add brown ink to the edges of the coffin and the hole. Flick on black paint and wrap the box with chains.  Do not wrap them all the way around.  You want the back to remain flat so you can attach it to your frame.  

I painted the Tim Holtz large framed panel with black soot Distress Paint and rubbed just a tiny bit of Tarnished Brass paint to highlight it.  Place your coffin in the middle and glue it down.  Add a ton of moss and your project is complete!
